Ephesians 5:22 - 6:9
A Christlike Home

The passage in Ephesians 5:22-6:9 about wives submitting to husbands has been widely misunderstood when taken out of context. Paul was actually challenging the Roman Empire's hierarchical household structure established by Aristotle, which placed men as rulers over women, children, and slaves. The word "submit" doesn't even appear in verse 22 in the original Greek - it only appears in verse 21, calling for mutual submission among all believers. Paul revolutionized the concept by showing that Christ transformed submission from weakness into strength, and that Christian households should reflect equal value and status for every person in Christ rather than worldly power structures.
